There are moments in our young children's lives when one look from them speaks volumes of clarity, enlightenment, and knowledge. These are the times when you know deep down in your soul that this little person is much more than a baby who has spent a mere few hundred days in this world, that they, in fact, have been here before - again and again. Its a look that says that they know the meaning of life, whether God is a man or a woman, what the Dali Lama's middle name is, and how the last season of the Sopranos is going to end.
Its times like these when I meet my daughter's strong gaze that I think to myself...
"Damn. She knows I'm full of shit."

A Moment of Clarity

Hahah!!
I love the theory that children know everything when they're born and then lose it as they grow older. I often suscribe to that theory.
Though, keep those kids away from me. I don't want them to spoil Sopranos.
Sometimes this very thing takes my breath away.
I also hope that she can tell me that there will be no more frickin' dream sequences for the rest of the Sopranos series.
This cracked me up. What was it specifically that she knew you were full of shit about? And does she also know that Thomas, Dora, Blue and all the rest are full of shit? :)
Very funny. That whole gaze from the mini wise-old man that my son was freaked me out. Now at four he has already mastered the eye roll and his psychic vision only works when he knows that if he pushes me just a wee bit harder that I'll resort to bribing with candy.
Ah, the old souls. I love babies who clearly have old souls.
So yeah, why was she giving you that look?
Sigh. They just see right through us, don't they?
It goes from a look to actually telling you that you are full of shit, but my daughter not being a potty mouth like her mama says something like "Mama that's not right, don't be silly"
WonderBaby fixes me with those looks about ten times a day. It scares me. 'Cuz I imagine that once she's big enough to take me, she's gonna roll me for cash and the car keys and head out to get some real answers. You know, when she's about five.
Very deep, very thoughtful. I especially loved your wrap up. ;)
Yep I can identify. It began in the hospital where one of the nurses -- and all our nurses were FANTASTIC!, I believed everything they said.. One of the nurses looked at e. and said she was an old soul.
My first thought. Well good. I think at this point p-man and me will really need a grown up around the house!
My daughter probably knows I'm full of shit. But, it's quality shit.
My dog actually told me I was full of shit this morning. Or at least that's what it sounded like in Scooby-speak.
