It would be cheaper to tape his mouth shut

How to guarantee you'll need a new car:

Sit down with your wife to discuss your finances. Talk about how certain things will be paid off by a certain date as long as your car keeps running well, therefore keeping you both out of a second unnecessary car payment. Specifically point out that there shouldn't be anything to worry about in that department unless "the transmission goes".

Watch your wife visibly cringe because she thinks you jinxed things.

Scoff at your wife's unreasonable jinxing fears.

Maybe make a crack about how she worries too much.

Come home from work one afternoon less than a week later and mention how your car won't go into reverse anymore.

Start making plans to purchase a new car.

How to keep the peace in your marriage:

Start listening to your wife more. Or invest in a lot duct tape.

*Hands you a fresh roll of duct tape* It's inevitable isn't it?

Take one paid off car in July (5 long years of payments)husband opens his mouth and says "Whew paid off and nothing ever major broke down" and in September your rear end in that car goes out! Woohoo!

This is the second transmission I've read about in the past week.

If you also drive an Explorer, then I'm more than a little freaked out.

(Also: here's to hoping the Tigers can avoid screwing things up this weekend. Our bet's still on, right?)

Would be so much easier if they learned not to even think these things. “Transformers” wasn’t just a movie – those machines are alive! How else do you explain the copier that goes on the fritz when you need 20 packets done 15 minutes before your meeting?!?

Hubby and I stopped buying each other anniversary and Christmas presents because the cars got jealous and always needed some major work during the holiday season. If I’d just made them stockings…

So far as the jinxing – we paid his car off last spring. Title shows up in the mail on a Friday. He says “oh oh, watch something happen now that we own it”. Tuesday morning someone veered into his lane, he swerved to avoid them, put the car onto the median, and bent the left front tire UNDER the car!

Duct tape? Buying it by the pack, not the roll! So many uses, so little time...

We sold our car less than a month after we paid it, thereby circumventing the inevitable!

Just stumbled on your site from Aventures of Crazy Mum....
so glad I did.
What a great blog. I read some previous posts, and enjoyed them very much.
I am so totally following you now.
I hear ya on the previous post... I have lost my "groove" or "inspiration" many times.
But today, it looks like you found your 'voice" again!!!

You have a wonderful style... keep up the great work, even when you have nothing to post about.
(we're all right there with you)

Ahhh the duct tape...I could have used a pack or two of this myself this week! If only they would understand that listening to your wife is free....

I avoided posting on how well school is going for nearly a month because of this very real jinx fear. Now I posted it and I'm waiting for that other shoe to drop.

We're a two car payment family right now. I *do not* recommend it.

My husband scoffs at the jinx factor too. Silly man.

My wife also fails to grasp the intricacies of the "jinx" concept. Drives me crazy.

On the other hand, perhaps this was all a nefarious plot on Mr. Chicky's part to obtainify a new car. If so... well played, Mr. Chicky. Well played indeed.

Yep. Another one to watch is this - Do not, ever, say while driving 'We haven't had a flat tire for years.'
My whole family has the habit of looking up to the sky and saying something like 'I loooove rain'. Just in case the weather gods are listening.

Husbands just don't get it but the "Jinx" thing is very real! I have enjoyed reading your blog, I stumbled onto it about a week ago.

I say it's time to invest in the duct tape.

Duct tape comes in a variety of beautiful colors--one for every day of the week. :)

They just DO NOT LISTEN! The exMrS used to ALWAYS say "Oh, hey, LA traffic is pretty good today," just before we rounded a curve to see a SigAlert. ALWAYS. I wanted to keeeeeeeel him

Or you could just install one of those horseshoe shaped driveways. Of course, you'd have to be careful about parking lots because you'll need to use the pull-thru method so that you can just drive forward out of the space.

We always worry about the jinx and we have had nothing but bad luck the last 2 years.

Maybe we should ignore the jinx to get good luck??
