The Ultimate Struggle

"Mommy, I wanna *mumble mumble mumble* -uggle."

"Huh?"

"I wanna *mumble mumble mumble* -uggle."

"What?"

"I. Wanna. *mumble mumble* -UGGLE."

"I'm sorry, hon, but I have no idea what you're saying."

"I wanna do that." Points to the DVD player.

"Okay first, chew and swallow that snack in your mouth before you talk. It's dangerous and kind of annoying. And second, are you asking for a movie?"

Swallows, "No. I wanna do the Struggle with you."

"The Struggle? What's the Struggle?"

"That." Exasperated sigh. Points. "I wanna do jumping jacks. The Struggle. I wanna do that with you."

"Jumping ja... Do you mean the Shred?"

"Yeah! That. I wanna do that with you. The Struggle."

Only a four year old is going to beg to work out with Jillian Michaels. I, on the other hand, begged off. Needless to say, being a Shredhead didn't work out for me. (But it worked for a lot of other people! Yay!)

I need something different. Anyone have a suggestion for me? Because getting my expanding ass into the jeans I'm wearing right now? That was a struggle.

That is hilarious! I can't imagine doing a Jillian video. She is hard-core and badass. You rock for even trying!!

Not sure if you're opposed to exercise in general, but I love love love the FIRM. I tried the 30 day Shred but after the FIRM I just couldn't get into it. Best part? You only have to do it 3-4 days per week instead of every day. I got the one with the TransFIRMer (available on Amazon.)

I'm with ya, sister. The junk ain't in my TRUNK...it's more like a HATCHBACK. I tried the shredheads thing for three days and quit because it wasn't challenging. (Yes, I said it. I wasn't hurting after 3 days...) It isn't because I'm in THAT good shape, it's because I can't stay focused on that damn movie.

So, I have no advice, but let the rest of us know when you find something!

My kids try to work out with me too and it is sort of hilarious except that I'm so out of breath, I'm a little delusional.

Well, as you know, I heart the Shred b/c it was fast and actually worked. I've tried some other things but the can get pretty fancy with the footwork which is where I fall flat (on my face). If you have Comcast on Demand, I DARE YOU to try Cardioke. I almost wet my pants laughing the first (and only) time.

I have been hearing a lot about something like a PX360 or something? Everybody in my husband's hometown is doing it, at gyms and at home. My sil showed me 3 minutes of the video, and I wanted to throw up just watching. Sounds like fun, huh?!

I'd like to try the shred, but I have a feeling I will fail too. Sigh. I like my Wii Fit, if I actually have time to do it. It's the setting it up that gets me, plus I have trouble occupying the baby so she doesn't mess with the console.

So do I have enough excuses yet?

If you're really interested, I agree with Tracy. It's pretty good - and upbeat and real.

Of course, my dvds are all gathering dust.

Dudette,
It is a proven fact that jeans shrink 10% every 28 days. If you have had the same jeans for say, 28 days or more, depending on how often you wash, I vote that you get to doing some serious shopping. It is also a scientific fact that shopping burns more calories than areobics-and it is oh so much more fun.
I was glad to find your blog-very cool.

My girls love to do the Shred with me. It's kind of entertaining to watch, actually. (but not as entertaining as watching them do yoga poses on the Wii Fit!)

I hope you find something that works for you, exercise-wise.

i tried the shred and it was hard, but i just could not listen to "HER" tell me again how i can do it they were with me again. so i took to riding my bike which i do with the kids and love and walking and my wii fit which i really like my kids are 10 & 11 so they have a contest with their dad and me which makes it more fun. and i try to work "her" in 2-3 times a week maybe one day i will go to level 2, or not.

I've been doing Weight Watchers and walking a lot. It seems to be working. I am happy.

I can't do the high impact Shred because of my ankles, but even despite that, I tend to favor a more low impact routine. I think ANYTHING you do for 20-30 minutes, 3-5 times a week will be fine. Even a walk. I've been collecting 30 minute (or less) work out DVDs, all low impact, for about a year. Mind you, I haven't DONE any of them. :) But soon. Soon! One series that's interesting is called "The 10 minute solution." They have a bunch of different titles on Amazon. Good luck! PS Glad to see that New England Mamas will be coming back.
