I didn't even have to use my A-K ( but check with me tomorrow)

I'd have to say today was a pretty good day. Which is in sharp contrast to yesterday. Wow, yesterday. Wow.

Oh, what was yesterday? Yesterday was Spend Half the Day and the Whole Evening in the ER Because I Got Stupidly Dehydrated Day!

I'll have 10ccs of IV fluid, bartender, with a Reglan chaser. Sorry, can't tip you, what with this IV stuck in my arm and all. I'll catch you next time.

Oh please, don't be a next time. ER doctors are really bad at providing updates of important baseball games.

All joking aside there is a silver lining to spending more than seven hours in the ER, half of that spent hooked up to an IV drip while lounging on a gurney in the hallway of said ER. I did mention that I'm having a good day and that is due to being chock full o' fluids. I haven't puked once today! I've been able to keep down some fluids and my Nana and my dad's lady friend came over to bring me chicken soup and they cleaned my kitchen and I just ate two Mint Oreo cookies. AND they tasted good.

(I blame thank Julie and her Oreo fixation.)

But wait! There's more! I switched doctors. Thank you for all the kind words, and the unkind words for my doctor, on my last post. They were just the kick in the ass I needed to get a doctor that would show some concern for my condition. But how much do you want to bet my new doctor will be off-duty when I go to have this baby and my old doctor is on call? Should we start taking bets now?

There is a dark cloud behind my silver-lined cloud, however. Because it wouldn't be my life without a little ray of suck-assness to make things interesting.

My prescription for Zofran is done today. I have a new one, plus three refills from the old doc, but our prescription drug insurance company is fighting it. They only want to give me ten days worth of pills in a 30-day period, so I've been jumping through hoops all day making sure they send authorization papers to my soon-to-be-ex doctor and then making sure the doctor sends them back. Now I'm waiting for the insurance company to give it the ol' stamp of approval and then send authorization back over to my pharmacy. If I don't get the pills before the weekend is over I'm afraid I will end up back in the ER and I'd really rather not go there. The johnnies are pretty drafty.

So today is turning out to be a good day but tomorrow I may go postal on a certain insurance company that rhymes with Nedco. Because no one screws with a hormonal pregnant woman with morning sickness and gets out alive. You may as well try to come between me and my Mint Oreos.

Oh, and I apologize for being such a bad blog citizen lately. I've been at your blogs, trust me. I'll start commenting again, possibly from jail after my killing spree.

  2. I had a feeling yesterday was going to take the turn it did. But you're right -- not only is the IV fluid a good thing, but a new doctor is a better thing.

(Phew. I can relax a little now. I was worried!)

  3. Hey hon. I used to work for an insurance company that handled pharmacy stuff. Email me and I'll give you some info on how to get around the quantity limitations. :)

  4. Great, now I'm going to have that Ice Cube song in my head for the rest of the night. :)

Glad you're feeling better today. And I can't believe you had to depend on such infrequent updates on a most crucial baseball game... talk about just adding insult to injury!

  5. Stop apologizing! We just want you to feel better! (I know you can't, but I'm opening a bottle of red in your honor tonite!)

  6. Now that you are re-hydrated, you may feel better for awhile. I know when I was sick (and again when daughter was sick) that the more dehydrated you are, the harder it is to keep stuff down. You end up in a viscous cycle of being sick but trying to keep stuff down but being so dehydrated that nothing will stay down.

  7. Glad to hear that the gods gave your body a break today! Wehew!!

  8. I was worried about dehydration too. I'm glad you're feeling better and I'm glad you got a new doctor. The doctor you get in labor doesn't matter much. They're just there to catch anyway. Wish I could be your doula. :?)

  9. no jail. i'll totally be your alibi.

"she was with me all day. i was holding her hair while she puked."

it's an iron-clad story - no one will doubt it.

    2. Glad you're hydrated.
    3. Glad you're eating.
    4. Glad you're feeling better!

Keep us all posted, m'kay? (And puh-leeze, for the love of all things holy, let me know when you need for Chicky Baby to have a playdate with a certain little brown haired peanut!)

  11. IV fluids are the bomb when you can't keep anything down. I am glad you are feeling better!

  12. Isn't the IV thing lovely? The ability to sleep without puking, the fluids, the non-cracked lips.

Good for you for finding a new doctor! I hope things go better for you now.

  13. I had no idea the IV could help so much. I am so glad for you and am totally kicking myself because I would put off going in because, like you, I had kept down an apple or something.
still offering to mail you diclectin
WTF is w you insurance co messing with you? Are they insane?

  14. Insurance companies=suck
    Doctors who don't listen=suck
New doctors who do listen and not vomiting all day=priceless.

    Way to go.

  15. WOO HOO! New doctor! It will be the best thing you have ever done..I swear it! Congrats on your GOOD DAY!

  16. Yaayyy!!!! So glad things are going so much better for you, and I hope things work out with your insurance company. And on a completely unrelated note: I just discovered Mint Oreos last week and I have now eaten three whole bags of them. OMG they're good!

  17. I almost blacked out when I read that the insurance company was challenging your px - that is a crime (it really is). I will make a sacrifice to the right deities today and hopefully my offering of Thin Mints and Smarties will influence the idiots in the rubber stamp department. Please have more of a good day.

  18. I was surely hoping you'd be feeling better by now...

    I'm so sorry Mrs. C!!!

I hope this new doctor finds the relief you need!

  19. Oreos make everything better - and of course, more drugs! I'm so glad you went to the ER and got a new OB. I was worried!

Email notameangirl to get her advice on handling the insurance company. When I was pregnant with HRH, our insurance co at the time (rhymes with Sweatna) kept denying things like my gulcose tolerance test. Cause apparently, gestational diabetes isn't something to really worry about.

  20. I'm so glad you're feeling better. I hope it continues and that the asshats at the insurance company approve your Zofran. I go thru this crap all the time with O's test strips. They only want her to check her blood sugar 4x a day. Um, no. That's the minimum recommended. I don't think minimum is good enough for my kid. Grr. Insurance companies drive me around the bend.

  21. Thank goodness you switched doctors. I was worried I might have had to come down there and shake some sense into you.

But I was worried you'd puke on me. Or pass out.

Take care my sick, little preggo friend.

    I'm thinking of you.

And good luck with the script and the insurance asses.

I'll kick their asses if you point me in the right direction...

  22. It's amazing how a small thing, such as not puking constantly, can really brighten up your day!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Give 'em hell! I hope you get your meds.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hope you get your meds. Sadly, my Pharmacist husband says this is pretty common.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I was afraid you'd end up in the ER. I'm glad you are full of fluids and under the care of a new doctor. Now if only you can get the insurance company to play ball...

I'm sorry. It shouldn't have to be this hard.

  26. I am so glad you're having a good day! I never threw up with my pregnancies and I have much empathy with those who do. I got migraines. First 16 weeks. Migraines and nothing but tylenol. It wasn't nearly as bad as your puking!

Don't you wish you could tell the insurance peeps to shove it up their collective asses???

    ReplyDelete
  27. Glad to hear that you're okay. I've haven't been visiting my favorite blogs for a while so I had no idea you were expecting. Congrats!!!!! Best of luck.

  28. We have the same insurance company. And wow. I know how it is to deal with them. Going postal on "Nedco" would be a public service.

And we'll see you in game seven - sorry, this is a house led by an Ohioan. Go Tribe!

(I secretly hope the Sox win, b/c I couldn't take another Tribe World Series. My husband may have a stroke.)

  29. Oh, I hope the insurance stuff works out. And, glad you are feeling better. I really jonesing for an Oreo right now.

  30. WTF? Can they not do math???

10 days worth to last 30 days! DUH! I failed college algebra like 9 times & I still can figure that out!

Best wishes for more days like this :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Where are the hq of Nedco? Maybe you should go puke on them, then they'd approve that prescription toot sweet.

    In other news, OHMIGAWD!!! WHOOOOOOOO!!!!

I never thought I'd say this, but thank god for JD Drew.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Okay, I'm going to be hopeful and lay my bet down that your new doc delivers. Your old doc will be at home puking her guts out because she'll be pregnant.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, I am SO glad for you to be feeling a bit better. Hopefully that's the thing that gets you over. And hey, if a girl's gotta pull a full-on ER visit for an entire day to get a few minutes to herself, then that's what a girl's gotta do! (Sounds good about now... )

    ReplyDelete
  34. So glad you are feeling better and that you have a shiny, new doctor! Who GIVES a crap! Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Isn't it crazy how good IV fluids can feel? I was so sick once and they had to give me 4 bags of it.

I hope things get better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  36. no more black clouds for you. glad you got the help you need.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh, you poor, poor thing! I hope your new doctor takes really good care of ya.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Meaning all the drugs you want. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm glad you were able to eat two Mint Oreo cookies - and I'm so happy to hear you are feeling a little better. YAY for the kitchen cleaners and soup bringers too! I hope you continue to feel better and are feeling "good" soon!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am so glad that you got a new doctor and are feeling better. But heck, you could have called me, I would have come and pumped you full of liquids, and you could have watched ball games :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. wow, it sounds like such a lot of hassle on your end of things!

I'm so glad healthcare is relativly simple over here, I think my brain would burst having to cope with so many to-ings anf fro-ings as you seem to have to.

Glad to see you're feeling better.

And I love oreo's, but I can't buy them normally over here, I have to buy them from ebay :(
