In the basement of the local Congregational Church...

Hi, I'm Mrs. Chicky and I'm addicted to blogging.

Hi Mrs. Chicky.

The cat is out of the bag... Yes, I am addicted to writing my blog and to reading other people's blogs. This was a problem I had under control until recently when I started checking out other people's blog rolls. Ultimately, I would find one or two new blogs that set my heart a-twitter and promptly bookmarked them, adding to the already huge list of blogs that I read on a semi-daily basis.

*taking a sip of coffee to compose myself*

This was always my little secret that I kept from my friends and family. Sure, the Hubby knows, but he loves me enough to turn a blind eye. Besides, its not hurting anyone. I still devote oodles of time to Chicky Baby's care and well-being. Sometimes up to 3 minutes at a time. I mean, hey, a girl's got to do something while waiting for her blogging buddies to update their sites. Might as well play with the baby, maybe change a diaper. Possibly do a shot.

But this past weekend, while spending time at Casa de Chicky to babysit her niece, my sister found out about my blog site.

*another long sip of coffee. hand noticeably shaking.*

I have intentionally kept this privileged information under wraps, not telling my friends or family about my blog for one very good reason. Where the hell else am I going to go to bitch and moan about all of them? Do you think I'm a big enough person to do that to their face? Noooo. I am a small, small person. But now my sister knows and I wonder if this will influence how and what I write.

Will I censor myself?

Oh, the horror.

And, really, its nobody else's business that I write about them on a public blog. Who the hell are they to think that their private lives are actually, uh, private? And its not like I post their pictures, or their social security numbers, here (but don't piss me off, I have a hair trigger temper). Everybody has their "thing" that they do on the internet. Chat rooms, fantasy baseball leagues, porn sites dedicated to marsupial love (ah, the love between a man and a wombat).

I know from reading your blogs that most of you have shared your site with people you know, and not just the friends you've made in the blogosphere. Did it start that way or did they ply you with gin and Nyquil to get your url? Do you find yourself watering down your content to keep yourself in the good graces, and the wills, of your family?

So, please, help me welcome to my readership.... Aunt Chicky.

She's lucky she regularly brings wine when she comes to visit or I might have been really freaked out by this.

Hi, I am de-lurking today:)

My family knows about my blog, not everyone though. My mom is one of my biggest fans, and my sister. So yes, I have to be careful not to bash anyone, and that's okay. That is what DH is for!

I've been thinking about this a lot myself lately - such a good question. I approached my blog more like a columnist/memoirist than a diarist. So I decided that while I would delve into feelings and personal stuff, I also had to keep in mind that my cousins were reading, and that I didn't want to hurt anyone.

I'm glad my mom reads, for one--she's my biggest fan!

But yes, there are times that I wish it was so anonymous that I could just confide every icky moment. Oh well, that's what therapy is for.

My mother knows, but she doesn't have a computer and has no idea how to operate one. My dad knows, but I don't care. Husband's family on the other hand . . . NO ONE knows. And I plan to keep it that way.

Did you make Aunt Chicky take a blood oath not to tell anyone?

My mom knows, but she'd never know how to find my site. My husband and his family know, and they do read it. I couldn't help letting my husband find out - he was wondering what I was doing spending so much time on the computer.

My dad's side of the family doesn't know, and I will never tell them. While I haven't really written about my father yet, it will come up at some point, and it won't be nice.

I'm like you ... a closet blogger. Not that I ever say anything about anyone, I'm very careful - at least not negative things. My sister would read, my parents would be confused, and my friends, I don't want them to feel obligated. Or call me on it when they know I'm full of shit. :)

LOL so funny. I have a "family" blog that is censored and all about my son then my real blog is top secret but IRL friends know about it. That kinda sucks b/c plenty of times I could have bitched about them. BUT my aunt found my old blog, told my mom I was mean and swore a lot :) so I moved and now use code names.

And I so hear ya, I stopped looking at blogrolls b/c mine is out of control already. I just can't read another blog. Although I did just add you ;) But last one, I swear!

I think about this a lot. My blog is secret, even though I never talk about other people in my life, at least not in a negative way.

I wonder if I should tell my family, but I like thinking that if I ever needed to I could vent online.

I also suspect that my father found the blog, but I can't be sure.

So for now, only the husband knows. I think.

I just came to your blog from Wendy (View from Crazy) for the first time. I also am addicted to blogging. I have bloggareah. I can't stop myself. A 12 step program is in order. :)

My family knows, but they have actual lives and don't bother to read, I don't think. Except my mom. I self edit for my daughter, who reads it, and my old CEO, who reads it, and I don't want him knowing about the time I went to the chiropractor and had to wear just a gown that opened in the back for an exam, but I was wearing a thong. Everyone else in the UNIVERSE can know that, but not him. :)

I don't blog about work though. I don't remember how the ex-boss-man found out about it.

You have to be careful, though, becuase someone could find out. So it's a choice...write what you feel, completely free...or self censure a bit.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed this topic. The decision to let my sister know about my blog was a tough one for me but, ultimately, it ended up being kind of silly. I don't think she even reads it! But she's the only one in my family (besides the Hubby) who is going to know about it. There is no way I'm going to let the rest of the loonies who are related to me know that I chat about them from time to time!

But, if they do find out, everything I say is said with love. ;)

Although, I am thinking about the Blood Oath thing.

I took a poll on this about a month ago. You can read it here if you haven't already. I'm a sneaky little weasel. I haven't told ANYONE about my blog except Hubz and that's only because it was his idea. I've toyed with starting another one that would be more toned down and "other people" friendly (because I do actually know some real life humans) but that would just cut into my limited "feed the monkey on my back" time. I know you understand, Mrs. Chicky.
